The Select Program places players, ages U-13 thru U-19, who strive to play at a higher level by competing
with teams from other clubs throughout the state. Although scores and standings are kept, CGSA’s Select
Program is still a player development organization. Team development is a by-product of the combination
of the players’ development and their ability to work together as a team. Although the desired outcome is to
emerge with wins and advancement in standings, the players’ development is the priority.
A player develops from more than the soccer training he receives on the field. Sportsmanship is also a key
element that we teach. Contrary to popular belief, soccer is a very physical sport and emotions can easily
get out-of-hand if we are not careful. Coaches and trainers are required to conduct themselves first as
teachers and second as coaches, by the use of positive and appropriate behavior at all times. Players are
expected to be polite, positive, well-mannered, cooperative, respectful and considerate of others as stated in
the CGSA Select Policy for Players Code.
Parent Commitment:
The parents’ commitment and positive behavior is also necessary. All parents are expected to follow the
Spectator’s Code as stated in the CGSA Select Policy. As adults we have to set the right example for our
players. The important lessons of teamwork and fair play are lost on our children if we adults act
inappropriately at games and practices.
